The £2 fare cap – part of the Government’s Help for Households initiative – is ending on 31 December 2024, but Morebus is assuring local people there are still affordable options for bus travel across the area.
“Although maximum single journey fares are to rise to £3 from 1 January 2025, there are still plenty of other options for bus passengers here. Some single fares will be less than £3,” said Nikki Honer, Morebus head of communications.
“We have made the decision to limit single adult fares to £2.50 on our m1 and m2 routes. Adult return fares will no longer be available – but we are reducing our Dayrider tickets for these routes to £4.50. Passengers can buy all these tickets through our app or via contactless tap on, tap off – though they won’t be able to purchase paper day tickets directly from our drivers.”
Morebus is also making changes to fares in other zones within its operation:
Zone A adult single fares will be £2.20, £2.40, £2.70 or £3 – depending on how far people travel. Most routes will no longer have a return fare. For customers making more than one journey a day, a zone A Dayrider costs £5 via the app or tap on, tap off.
“For those who travel with us regularly within our Zone A, period passes definitely offer the best value,” added Nikki. “They are available through our app, and have the potential to cut unlimited travel for less than £2.40 per day – which is also less than most people pay for a coffee on the go.
“We’re working hard to ensure people across our area continue to travel by bus – and to persuade more to leave their cars at home and hop on board with us instead. Keeping our period pass fares as low as possible is part of that, and will be particularly useful for commuters.
“Bringing as many people as possible onto our buses and taking cars off the roads will help improve air quality across the region. Not only that, it will also ease congestion which will, in turn, cut journey times for all.”
Zone AB and ABC single adult fares will range from £2.40 to £3. Returns for these zones will still be available, with a maximum cost of £6.
Paper m1 and m2 Dayrider tickets are no longer available. Those wishing to buy a paper ticket for these routes will need a zone A Dayrider, costing £5.20. They can use cash or contactless to buy these.
Child single fares on m1 and m2 will be £2 and child returns are £3. A child Dayrider is £3.40.
