Dorset Chamber spoke to Ben Elmore, from workplace technology experts, Agilico, finalists in the Dorset Business Awards 2024 Environmental Impact category, on its commitment to sustainability and how it is supporting other businesses to decrease their carbon footprint.
Agilico works with more than 14,000 customers in the South West and across the UK to help build organisations equipped for success in the face of rapid and continuous change. Its goal is to maximise operational effectiveness and make work easier through cutting-edge workplace technology in managed print, automated invoice processing, hosted VoIP telephone, and agile working. Agilico are proud to be the UK’s pioneering Circular-First Managed Print Services business, leading sustainability in the sector.
Agilico has embedded sustainability at the heart of its business for years. In 2023, it committed to achieve Net Zero status by 2030 and adopted the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in 2024 to further integrate sustainability into its operations. Ben Elmore, said: “We’ve begun implementing initiatives to support these goals and document them on the Sustainability section of our website and on an SDG Hub within our Intranet. Many colleagues have become Goal Champions, leading content and engagement around specific goals.”
Its refurbished devices have provided a disruptive solution in the industry, significantly reducing environmental impact. These Multi-Functional Devices (MFDs) cut carbon emissions associated with new device and parts manufacturing, reduce used waste going into landfill, and provide a more cost-effective solution for customers. Ben Elmore said: “In 2012, we opened our first purpose-built recycling centre to recycle, reuse, and refurbish copiers and printers. Each year, thousands of devices are refurbished and returned to the market, preventing tens of thousands of toner bottles and components from reaching landfills. In 2025 we now have refurbishment centres throughout the UK putting us closer to customers than ever before”.
Partnerships with other organisations have amplified its impact on sustainability. One of its offset partners is Ecologi which is one of the UK’s leading all-in-one climate platforms. Where it can’t make an impact directly, Agilico looks to support deforestation and rewilding activities, which is helping to develop sustainable, long-term solutions for climate change.
Agilico’s dedication to sustainability was recently recognised with the Print IT Award for Environmental Excellence. This prestigious industry award highlights its success in reducing its environmental footprint through initiatives like refurbished devices, recycling centres, and partnerships. Ben Elmore commented: “We are incredibly proud to have won the Print IT Award for Environmental Excellence. It reflects our team’s hard work and motivates us to continue driving meaningful change for our industry and the planet.”
Agilico’s efforts demonstrate how businesses can achieve operational success while positively impacting the environment.
