Blue Sky Thinking at Care Seminar

The many challenges and opportunities facing the care sector today are to be addressed by experts at a free seminar in Southampton, Hampshire.

Accountancy, investment management and tax group Smith & Williamson is hosting its Care Sector Seminar on Tuesday April 24.

Entitled: Sunshine after the Rain, the afternoon event is being staged at Hampshire cricket’s Ageas Bowl venue, near Southampton.

Aimed at owners and decision makers of businesses in the care sector, the 4pm to 7pm seminar will feature a series of specialist keynote speakers.

Greg Palfrey, Smith & Williamson partner and national head of restructuring and recovery, said: “Both our recovery and corporate finance teams are currently seeing significant activity within the care sector.

“We believe it would be timely to share our experience, hear from an operator and garner the views of sector practitioners.”

Southampton-based Greg added: “Our intimate knowledge of the care and charity sectors, allied to our commercial viewpoint, stands us in good stead, to host this important event.

There will be grey skies – financial and operational difficulties, blue skies – funding opportunities, acquisitions, sales and mergers – and then sunshine.”

The seminar starts with Greg examining the sector financial challenges and difficulties currently being seen, together with potential solutions.

He will be followed by Bryan Higgins, managing director of healthcare management consultancy HeadWindsCare, who will use his many years of experience to highlight some of the key areas of operational difficulties and how these can be resolved.

Deals and opportunities will be covered by Amanda Phillips, head of corporate finance at the Southampton office of Smith & Williamson. Experienced in undertaking transactions and valuations in the healthcare sector, she will give an overview of the current care sector market, the deals and opportunities.

Mahesh Patel, chief executive of Minster Care Group which operates 60 care homes, will explain how his company’s business was built, what the key challenges have been and offer his view of future opportunities for the sector generally.

The keynote speakers will be followed by a question and answer session to the panel, followed by refreshments.
