Bournemouth Foodbank and Bournemouth & Poole College Unite to Drive Awareness and Community Support

September 2024 – Bournemouth Foodbank is delighted to announce a partnership with Bournemouth & Poole College for the 2024/25 academic year. This collaboration will focus on raising awareness about food poverty, fostering a culture of giving, and engaging students in meaningful ways to support local communities in need.
The partnership will see Bournemouth Foodbank working closely with Bournemouth & Poole College to highlight the pressing issue of food insecurity within the local area. Through shared campaigns, the college community will be encouraged to learn about the realities of food poverty and find out how they can make a difference. Information screens throughout the campuses will display key messages about the foodbank’s work, including how to donate, volunteer, and access their services. To support this effort, donation bins will be placed at five strategic locations across both campuses, providing a convenient way for students, staff, and visitors to contribute non-perishable food items.

Engagement at Welcome Fest
As part of the partnership, Bournemouth Foodbank had a significant presence at Bournemouth & Poole College’s Welcome Fest, where they engaged new and returning students with an interactive stand. It featured a pledge board for students to commit their support to ending food poverty, a selfie photobooth to amplify the message on social media among other activities. This is not just about raising awareness but also about encouraging students to get involved and take action in ways that are meaningful and impactful.

Supporting the Community Through Collaboration
Bournemouth & Poole College has a longstanding commitment to student and community welfare, and this partnership further underscores that dedication. “We are thrilled that our students will be able to support Bournemouth Foodbank via our BPC Grow Programme. We are committed to developing our students citizenship and embedding community engagement and responsibility as part of their time here with us at Bournemouth & Poole College” said Pippa Allner, Personal Development Manager at Bournemouth & Poole College.
For Bournemouth Foodbank, this collaboration represents a powerful opportunity to engage a new generation in the fight against food poverty. “Partnering with the college allows us to broaden our reach and educate students about the significant challenges many people in our community face,” said Rio Argent, Fundraising & Partnerships Manager at Bournemouth Foodbank. “Through this partnership, we hope to create lasting change by fostering a culture of compassion and action.”

A Year of Awareness, Action, and Impact
Throughout the academic year, Bournemouth Foodbank and Bournemouth & Poole College will continue to work together on joint initiatives, including fundraising projects led by students, community outreach efforts, and ongoing educational campaigns. This partnership is not just about immediate relief but about building a stronger, more aware community that stands united against food poverty that has unfortunately become a reality in our society.
