Bournemouth & Poole College welcomes adult education funding threshold change
Posted on: 12/06/2018
Adult learners could see their training at Bournemouth & Poole College being fully funded following a new rule set to be introduced by the Department of Education.
Over-19s currently have to be on benefits to receive full funding for their course in accordance with the Department of Education’s rules on the Adult Education Budget (AEB) for all providers of education and training. However, a new one-year trial could see those who earn less than the Social Mobility Commission’s low-pay threshold of £15,736.50, receive full funding from Bournemouth & Poole College’s AEB from 1 August 2018 to 31 July 2019.
Diane Grannell, Principal of Bournemouth & Poole College, said that this news will be welcomed by many adults who take on low-paid jobs while enrolled on a training course.
She added: “We are hoping that this rule change from the Department of Education will enable adults from across Dorset to pursue the training and education at the College which is required for their dream career.
“We are hosting an open event on Thursday June 14 from 4-8pm as part of our annual support of the national Festival of Learning (18 – 22 June) and we look forward to welcoming lots of future adult learners to the event who may want to pursue a career change or further qualifications.
“The Festival of Learning is a fantastic national celebration of the benefits of education, what can be achieved and why it’s never too late to go after the career you’ve always wanted.”
During the open event from 4-8pm, visitors will also be able to take a tour at both of the College’s Lansdowne and North Road sites, including the STEM (Science, technology, engineering and mathematics) centre, and the new Digital Skills Centre. The College’s careers advice and guidance team, curriculum staff and current students, as well as local employers from different sectors will be on hand to speak to prospective students about the jobs roles that could be on offer with the right training.
