Bournemouth University – Computing in Business Event – 16th May

This year our first year students from all our undergraduate Computing & Informatics degrees will be take part in Computing in Business, which will see them assessed on a number of different unit topics as part of this integrated assessment.

Working in groups, students will have the chance to utilise all the knowledge, intuition and skills they have accumulated throughout the year, to come up with a system design or database for a client, this year the client is BAE Systems. The event culminates in an exhibition where the students are given an opportunity to share and demonstrate their designs to industry and peers.

The students will be given a brief with a hypothetical business problem that their project needs to design a system solution for. For this, while for assignment purposes they do not have to code and create the system, they will need to demonstrate what the working system would look and feel like, and we usually have some groups that create a prototype to demonstrate their system. This event is a fantastic opportunity for our students and each year we are incredibly proud to see their great system designs.

We hope you will be able to join us for this on campus event on the 16 May 2025 and meet the next generation of computing professionals. Many of these Level 4 students will be looking for placement opportunities to start in Summer 2026.

We would like to invite you to come along to attend the exhibition, see the students work and, if you so choose, take part in scoring the entries and help us make the exhibition more realistic for the students. There will also be a placement and business engagement presentation at 1.30pm for those who would like to network, and find out more about recruiting a placement student.

Please join us at 10:30 if you would like to be a scoring attendee. The main exhibition will open at 11am.
