Brewers Quay development in Weymouth launches for off-plan sales

Apartments and mews houses within the much-anticipated Brewers Quay redevelopment in Weymouth have come to the market.

This first release includes a variety of one, two and three-bedroom apartments, as well as two and three bedroom mews houses. The redevelopment of the historic building incorporates retail units on the ground floor alongside Weymouth Museum, with 49 apartments over five floors.

Brewers Quay once housed two separate breweries, Devenish & Co and the Hope Brewery, owned by the Groves family. The Devenish family acquired the brewery in 1824 from a family who had been running it since the 1740s, while the Groves family bought theirs from the Luckhams in 1840. Both breweries flourished on their adjoining sites. In 1903, the Groves used London architects, Messrs Kinder & Son to design a brand new brewery for them, now the red-brick building which is still a key feature of Hope Square. Devenish continued to operate in a complex of buildings next door.

The buildings suffered considerable damage in the Second World War, requiring rebuilding. In 1960, Devenish took over the Groves business and ran them together until the last brew in 1985.
The brewery building is now being redeveloped into stylish apartments, with the mews style houses to the rear, accessed by a secluded courtyard area.

Alice Church of Savills residential development sales team in Dorset, says: “It is great to see the long-awaited redevelopment of this historic building take shape, breathing new life into Weymouth town centre. Where possible, features and historical reminders of its brewing past have been retained and incorporated.

“The first phase of the wider Brewers Quay redevelopment, Brewery Reach, proved incredibly popular, with all the townhouses reserved early off-plan and only a couple of apartments left. Therefore we are expecting demand for the homes at the luxuriously reimagined Brewers Quay to be high.”

Prices are from £235,000 for one bedroom and from £385,000 for two bedrooms. The mews houses are from £375,000 with balcony apartments from £440,000. Completions are expected from the second half of 2025. The new homes at Brewers Quay are being jointly marketed by Savills and Goadsby.
