Retail Success prompts new Tank Museum Online Shop

The Tank Museum has launched a new Online Shop website, following months of substantial growth in its online retail.

Lockdown saw sales from its online shop surge by 623%, compared to the same period in 2019, with revenue increasing to over £700,000 in 2020 so far.

Easier navigation, faster load speed and an increase in conversions were top priorities when the Museum approached JD (J Derrick Ltd), to assist with the redesign.

Head of Marketing, Nik Wyness, “Our online shop was designed for a much smaller audience. We’ve seen sessions increase from 129,300 visits in 2019 to nearly 700,000 so far this year, from a truly global audience.

“We needed to make sure our growing audience were able to easily find the products they wanted.

“This new site will be able to cope with the demand we’re seeing and bring our shopping experience up to date with modern customer expectations.”

Designer Richard Moody, has created a sleek and intuitive site. Landing pages for popular product categories, like books and models, have allowed the Museum to give its audience a custom experience. Whilst a Wishlist function now means customers can create a collection of items they want from the Museum’s shop.

Both Richard Moody and JD worked on the main Museum website, which launched in June, and have worked to integrate the look and feel of the two sites

Managing Director of JD, Jamie Derrick, “It’s a pleasure and a privilege to work with The Tank Museum, and it’s great to be able to bring our Shopify ecommerce expertise to a project that will help improve the bottom line during such a challenging time.

“Gone are the days of Museum shops just being the bit at the end where you can buy a giant pencil, you can literally do your entire Christmas shop at The Tank Museum’s new online store. Plus, you’re helping to preserve an amazing and unique collection.”
