Christmas Day bus services put to good use by passengers in Bournemouth and Poole

Morebus is celebrating the popularity of its festive bus services – with hundreds of people travelling across its specially extended m1 and m2 routes on Christmas Day 2022

“We’re delighted so many people journeyed with us,” said Morebus managing director, Andrew Wickham.

“Compared to pre Covid figures – Christmas 2019 – our passenger numbers were up by 15 percent, which is very good news. It is an encouraging sign that more people have chosen to leave their cars behind in favour of sustainable transport over the festive season.

“Across the UK, it is still relatively rare to be able to travel by bus on 25 December – but many people work or wish to visit family or friends, particularly if they are in hospital, which is why we extended our m1 and m2 routes to Christchurch and to Royal Bournemouth Hospital.

“We provide these services without any financial support from local authorities or from government – with drivers who volunteer to work on Christmas Day – so it is important they are used. And they most certainly are.

“As an integral part of the local community, we’re pleased to be able to provide such an important service at a time of year when many people may otherwise feel isolated.

“Our buses ran regularly throughout Christmas Day – and it’s great to know they were well used by people across Bournemouth and Poole.
