A local church dedicated to easing hunger and poverty in Bournemouth has received a festive boost this month – thanks to a donation by Morebus.
Citygate Church, based in Bournemouth, holds a weekly foodbank and along with this is providing hundreds of hampers for local people who wouldn’t otherwise be able to have a Christmas meal this year.
This worthy initiative has been chosen to receive £320 to help bring some festive cheer and much needed support to local people in need.
“Citygate Church’s weekly foodbank is a vital resource, providing vulnerable people with much-needed food and necessities when they are going through difficult times,” said Mike Freeborn Morebus area operations manager.
“We know many people struggle, particularly at this time of year, so we’re donating toward these special festive hampers. We hope those who receive these hampers are able to make good use of them and we wish them a very happy and peaceful Christmas.”
Ed Briggs, operations manager for Citygate, and hamper team leader, added: “Holiday hunger is a real concern as vulnerable families lose the support of free school meals and childcare support over the Christmas period.
“Yet again, they will be faced with the difficult choice between spending what they have to put presents under the tree or food on the table. We are so grateful for the generosity of Morebus and over 70 other local groups who are helping families celebrate together.”
