Air Ambulance Week 2023 takes place between 4 th – 10th September and is dedicated to raising awareness and funds for the vital life-saving work of air ambulance charities across the UK.
During the week, Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance is asking the public to support their life-saving work by donating £10 to their cause, enabling them to be there for patients, today, tomorrow and in the future. Furthermore, a number of engagement and awareness activities are being held on Thursday 7th September including the lighting up of two National Trust buildings: Corfe Castle in Dorset and the Wellington Monument in Somerset.
At over 1,000 years old, Corfe Castle is one of Britain’s most iconic and evocative survivors of the English Civil War. It’s a favourite haunt for adults and children alike, captivated by the romantic castle ruins and breath-taking views across Purbeck. After dusk on the Thursday evening, the castle will shine bright in the colours of the life-saving charity; yellow and green.
Tracy Bartram, Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance Communications Manager said:
“For over 20 years, Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance has been there for critically ill and injured people when they need us the most. The enhanced skills of our team, specialist equipment and drugs that we carry, along with the speed of our response, can make the difference between life and death. The service that we provide for the local community is 95% funded by charitable giving, by people like many of you. With every mission costing approximately £3,500 and the number of patients we are trying to reach increasing year on year, we need public support now, more than ever. This incredible awareness generating activity by Corfe Castle and Wellington Monument, supported by the National Trust is a truly wonderful gesture and will certainly increase awareness of our life-saving work.”
Adam Evans, Visitor Operations and Experience Manager at Corfe Castle said:
