Dorset Business Angels Set to Showcase Innovative Early-Stage Businesses at September Pitch Event

Dorset Business Angels (DBA) is gearing up for an exciting pitch event on September 30th at the Bournemouth Carlton Hotel. The event will feature five carefully selected companies presenting their innovative business propositions to a discerning audience of angel investors.

A diverse range of investment opportunities

The upcoming event promises a rich tapestry of investment opportunities, spanning sectors from air traffic control to charitable giving platforms. Peter Eales, DBA Managing Director, commented, "Our September event is shaping up to be particularly diverse and exciting. We've selected companies that not only show great promise but also address real-world challenges in innovative ways."

Spotlight on the Pitches

Revolutionising Air Traffic Control: A digital platform is set to transform Air Traffic Services by replacing paper-based processes and reducing reliance on radio and telephone communications. This SaaS Air Traffic Control platform, designed for small to medium-sized airports, operates on a subscription model. It avoids the substantial capital expenditure typically associated with installing existing systems and provides the flexibility to handle a mix of commercial and general aviation flights. With three airport customers and an MVP (Minimum Viable Product) already approved by the CAA for live operational trials, the company is seeking £500,000 to complete these trials and commence installations.

Women's Sportswear Innovation: A rapidly growing women's sportswear company, specialising in highly rated sports bras, is looking to expand its successful D2C (Direct to Consumer) business into new markets. Since its inception in 2018, the company has experienced an average year-on-year growth of 80%, with products now sold in 55 countries. With a current turnover of £1.5 million and consistently high product ratings, the company is seeking £400,000 to scale up the business and extend their support to an even broader community of women.

Multicultural Catering Platform: This rapidly expanding platform connects diverse local chefs with corporate clients, aiming to transform the modern catering industry. The company believes there's a growing appetite for varied and authentic worldwide cuisines and seeks to foster workplace diversity by celebrating cultural heritage through food. With a 228% year-on-year revenue growth over the past 18 months, 125 registered chefs, 60 different cuisines available, and 75 corporate clients signed up, the company is now seeking £500,000 to scale up the business.

Innovative Electrical Accessories: An innovative company is set to revolutionise the electrical accessories market with patent-pending designs that simplify installation, enhance safety, and significantly reduce installation time. Their products introduce new features and improvements that set a higher standard for the industry, addressing the need for more advanced, user-friendly solutions. The company claims their innovations can reduce installation times by as much as 50%, enhancing efficiency for both professional electricians and DIY users.

Charitable Giving Platform: A Dorset-based tech start-up is developing an innovative platform to revolutionise charitable giving. Rather than simply seeking monetary donations, the platform offers a 'one-stop-shop' for users to connect with causes that resonate with them most, shop for essential items on wish lists, or seek particular products. This approach aims to make giving more accessible and meaningful by allowing donors to see the direct impact of their generosity. The company is seeking £500,000 to further develop the platform.

A unique opportunity for investors

Debbie Frith, DBA Director, expressed her enthusiasm for the upcoming event: "The September pitch event presents a unique opportunity for investors to engage with businesses at the forefront of innovation in their respective fields. From transforming air traffic control to revolutionising charitable giving, these companies represent the kind of forward-thinking ventures that can truly make a difference."
