For the first year, Dorset Wildlife Trust (DWT) is pleased to announce that four of its visitor centres will be taking part in Art Weeks, displaying art exhibitions inspired by the natural world between Saturday 26th May and Sunday 10th June.
The Centre’s taking part are: The Dorset Wildlife Trust Brownsea Island Villa Wildlife Centre, The Kingcombe Centre, the Fine Foundation Chesil Beach Centre, and the Fine Foundation Wild Seas Centre in Kimmeridge.
The exhibitions consist of art work inspired by local wildlife and landscapes, in the mediums of photography, illustrations, paintings, watercolour, sculpture, pottery and wire sculpture work, to name a few.
DWT Communications Officer, Sally Welbourn, said, “We are looking forward to welcoming lots of visitors over the coming weeks, where they will not only be able to enjoy the art exhibitions, but also enjoy the locations of our centres, which are located near some of Dorset’s most iconic landscapes. Enjoy a day out at destinations such as the meadows at Kingcombe, the beach at Chesil and Kimmeridge and the amazing habitat on Brownsea Island, and combine your love of art with your interest in wildlife!”
New for this year, is award winning watercolour artist, Jake Winkle, who will be exhibiting at the Kingcombe Centre. His paintings have been exhibited widely in the south of England and he has also written a book Light and Movement in watercolour in 2012.
At Chesil, we welcome Monica Freeman from Weymouse Ceramics. Designing practical and fun pottery pieces, look out for Monica’s signature mouse on each of her creations. Inspired by the natural world, Monica has created ammonites and sea creatures, shells and leaves in fine detail, and bright colours.
At the newly refurbished Wild Seas Centre at Kimmeridge, local artist, and centre volunteer, Carol Traynor will be displaying her collagraph, acrylic and watercolour pieces, inspired by the sea and countryside of Dorset and Cornwall.
At the Brownsea Island Villa Wildlife Centre, Terri Peay will be exhibiting her products through watercolour illustration, from Dorset’s landscape to creatures. Her products include uniquely designed gifts and homewares, featuring characterful, quirky illustration and design.
100% of the profits raised during art weeks will be spent on vital wildlife conservation work in Dorset.
