Family Lawyers Put Best Foot Forwards For Hospice

Ten members of staff from law firm Trethowans have raised more than £2,500 for charity at the weekend by pulling on their walking boots and putting in a marathon fundraising effort.

Now in its 12th year, The Clarendon Way Walk is a 26.2mile charity walk from Winchester to Salisbury, in aid of Naomi House & Jacksplace.

The team from across their offices in Poole, Bournemouth, Southampton and of course Winchester and Salisbury, took on a mixture of the 14-mile and full 26.2-mile distances.

Andrew Mercer, head of the family team at Trethowans, said: “There was such a sense of camaraderie among us the whole way. It was tough in parts, with the weather being so hot and our feet taking quite a pounding, but the thought of raising so much money for such a worthy local cause really helped keep us going.”

Naomi House & Jacksplace hospices provide expert hospice care to more than 325 life-limited and life-threatened children, young people and their extended families from Hampshire, Wiltshire, Dorset, Berkshire, West Sussex, Surrey and the Isle of Wight.

Trethowans is a big supporter of the worthy cause and has chosen it as its dedicated charity of the year for the Salisbury office.

Jill McDonagh, Corporate Fundraiser, at Naomi House, said: “We are enormously grateful to the huge team from Trethowans for taking on the heat and hills of this year’s Clarendon Way Walk. This year’s walk was exceptionally tough but the guys from Trethowans were all smiles as they made their way along the course.

“The event has raised in the region of £135,000 this year. That is enough money to fund ongoing bereavement care for 34 families, or cover the running costs of Naomi House children’s hospice for 17 days. Our thanks go to Trethowans for their contribution to the Clarendon Way Walk and for their ongoing support.”

Trethowans is no stranger to good deeds in the community. To celebrate its 150th birthday it carried out 150 good deeds in the areas it works in. It has an ongoing CSR programme, which works to give back to the community by supporting charities, education and community and sporting groups.
