Bringing Businesses Together to Make a Difference

Homewards Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole and the Dorset Business Festival are delighted to invite you to attend BCP’s Employer Engagement Event on Wednesday 16th October from 10am-1pm, with a complimentary lunch afterwards.

Hosted by and delivered by the Homewards BCP Coalition, this event will bring together local employers and equip them with the knowledge, confidence and networks to create employment opportunities for people experiencing barriers to employment. Complete with a keynote speech, Q&A with expert panellists, working sessions and networking opportunities.

This inspirational event will demonstrate the power of businesses to deliver positive change in their communities plus provide practical support for them to do so.

Agenda

We’re thrilled to welcome Rosie Brown, CEO of Cook as our Keynote speaker:

Cook has helped over 150 people into work since 2014 through their pioneering RAW Talent Programme (RAW stands for Ready And Working), which supports people who would otherwise struggle to find a good job.

Rosie Brown will then host a panel discussion and Q&A with expert panellists including:

Greg Mangham, CEO of Only a Pavement Away, a charity founded by representatives from the hospitality industry who believe that everyone deserves the chance to find and forge a career.

Edward O’Brien, Senior Associate from Lester Aldridge, one of the largest law firms in the South of England with a range of specialisms including Employment Law and Human Resources.

The panel discussion will then be followed by a brief presentation from Nicola Newman, project lead for the Dorset Local Skills Improvement Plan (LSIP) manager, on the latest findings from the Dorset LSIP.

The LSIP plays a key role in tackling skills shortages by bringing employers, educators and other key stakeholders together to create a blueprint for transforming the skills system to meet local needs.

Following the panel discussion, event attendees are invited to participate in two of four interactive break-out sessions. These will introduce employers to different ways they can open up their job opportunities to individuals facing barriers to employment and highlight the local support available to do so.

The four breakout sessions will focused on:
1. Armed Forces CovenantThe Armed Forces Covenant is a promise by the nation ensuring that those who serve or have served in the Armed Forces, and their families, are treated fairly.

2. Crisis Homelessness Covenant: This is a pledge by employers to prevent and end homelessness through inclusive and supportive employment practices.

3. Disability ConfidentDisability Confident is creating a movement of change, encouraging employers to think differently about disability and take action to improve how they recruit, retain and develop disabled people.

4. Young People Not in Education or Training (NEET): Any young person aged 16-24 who is not in any form of education, training or employment is considered to be NEET. 12% of the population is considered NEET demonstrating the huge potential for the workforce.

We very much hope you can join us!
