FOCUS ON EDUCATION: Apprenticeships and Training Opportunities

As the new curriculum year started, it was great to see so many students – of all ages – enrolling on courses, starting apprenticeships and actively looking at the many career options open to them as they continue to develop their career plans.

We can report that the Apprenticeship pathway very much remains a strong career and employment option for both new apprentices and employers.

The College continues to work with local employers developing new apprenticeship areas and supporting new Government backed training opportunities – such as Skills Bootcamps and Multiply – for recruitment and upskilling both new and existing members of staff. We have seen a strong growth in local employers looking at development options for their staff – with a noticeable emphasis on the promotion of training benefits as a support to recruitment.

With this growth in mind – Stacey Howlett recently joined the Employer Services Team here at Weymouth College in the role of Employer Engagement Consultant.

Stacey started her career in education over 10 years ago and for the past 8 years has been a relationship manager with a focus on building strong relationships with learners and business owners. When offered the opportunity to work in an education setting supporting employers on a wider scale she jumped at the chance! Stacey is passionate about the role of apprenticeships within local business and is already working to support our local employers with their training needs and recruitment solutions. We are very pleased to welcome Stacey to our team.

Some news for 2023 – we will be launching a new range of traineeship opportunities – designed to prepare 16-24 year olds for progression to an apprenticeship, employment or further learning – if you would like to find out more about this development and potentially become a member of our curriculum supporting industry advisory panel please get in touch.

Talk to us today and find out more about how we can work together to build a skills-led future for the Dorset workforce.
