Future of hospitals in east Dorset

Hospitals in east Dorset are being transformed.

There are extensive developments across Christchurch, Poole and the Royal Bournemouth hospitals. For these changes to be successful and to design the very best local services, the hospitals are seeking public support and involvement.

Debbie Fleming, joint chief executive has written a feature with the medical directors of both hospital trusts asking for the public to get involved and to become members of the trusts. This will give them the opportunity to hear firsthand what is going on at the trusts as they move towards merging and the reconfiguration of services and to share their views and thoughts on the plans.

The article features details on the future of emergency and critical care at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital, and the new Maternity and Children’s Units. It also outlines the investment in Poole Hospitals operating theatres and outlines how the Urgent Treatment Centre is being designed to treat just under 60,000 patients a year. There is some local interest in the concept of an ‘A&E Local’ and the hospital trusts shall be staying very close to policy and research developments in this area as things move on. Further developments at Dorset County Hospital and Christchurch Hospital are also covered in the article.
