Greendale commence eighth SCOLA project for Hampshire County Council

Chartered Builders, Greendale Construction Limited has won a 58 week contract from Hampshire County Council involving the recladding and internal remodelling and refurbishment of an existing two storey SCOLA type teaching block at Testbourne Community School, Whitchurch.  Commencing on 26/07/21, and due for completion 05/09/22, the works will be carried out in four phases with minimum disruption to the school, staff and its pupils.

SCOLA buildings for schools were introduced in the 1960s as an affordable and quick building method to meet the demands of expansions within the education sector.  However, poor insulation and over glazing can make the classrooms uncomfortable learning environments as well as consuming a lot of energy.  The re-cladding program not only makes the learning environment more comfortable for students and teachers alike, but also reduces the buildings’ carbon footprint.

Nick Child, Greendale surveyor and contracts manager, who also manages Greendale’s Winchester office said:This is the eighth SCOLA project Greendale has worked on for Hampshire County Council.  The contract was won through competitive open tender and highlights Greendale’s reputation for consistent quality and excellence across a competitive market.  The refurbished teaching block will enable staff and students to work in a more pleasant and energy efficient environment.”
