Greendale Construction win Occupational Health Award and Member of the Year South West Award at BSG Ceremony

Chartered Builders, Greendale Construction Limited is celebrating after winning two awards at the annual Building Safety Group Health & Safety Awards ceremony, hosted at the Williams F1 Experience Centre, Oxfordshire on June 7th 2023.
The construction company, founded in 1990, with offices in Poole and Winchester, won the Occupational Health Award and Member of the Year (South West) Award, which were presented to Greendale Construction’s Commercial Director, Chris Cave, and HR Manager, Charlotte Holyoake, who attended the ceremony.

Maria Seabright, HR & Finance Director, Greendale Construction, commented: “Greendale take mental health very seriously, and so we were delighted to win the BSG Occupational Health Award.  In 2018, we made the decision to implement a number of procedures in order to prevent and remove occupational health risks from our workplace.  Stress, depression, and anxiety account for 27% of all work-related illness in construction, and our aim at Greendale is to create a workplace environment that promotes and supports the mental wellbeing of all employees regardless of their role within the business.

“We now have seven mental health first aiders from across all parts of the business (directors, managers, site managers and admin staff).  All Greendale management staff are offered and encouraged to attend mental health awareness training – and we currently have 30 employees that have attended this training.

“We encourage a healthy work/life balance at Greendale, and have introduced family friendly policies. We understand that our employees have commitments away from the office so aim to be flexible wherever we can so that our staff are there for important moments at home as well as at work.  Greendale introduced the ‘Midday Mile’ which encourages staff to get away from their desks, take a breather and get some fresh air every lunchtime. We have also linked up with a mental health charity specifically for the construction industry – The Lighthouse Club which has become the company’s annual charity of the year for 2023.  The charity offers numerous free services to our employees including a 24/7 confidential helpline and a text message advice service for those who need it”

“Greendale Construction values its employees and are fully aware that it’s our workforce who make Greendale the award-winning construction company we are today.  We strive to create a healthy and happy environment for all our staff, whether they are office or site based, and want them to know there is help and advice available for those who want or need it.”

Andy Musselwhite, Contracts Director, Greendale Construction, said: “The BSG Member of the Year  Award is presented to the top performing company within the region, based on site inspections and general health and safety performance. This award is for all the hard work by our site teams, especially Site Managers and Foreman, who ensure we have well-managed and safe construction sites. Greendale is the only company this year to win two BSG awards, and incidentally, the South West Region of BSG has the most member companies in it,  so this is an outstanding achievement which makes us especially proud of everyone at Greendale who made this possible.”
