Humphries Kirk delivers presentation at CLA Rural Tax Seminar in Dorchester

Leading law firm Humphries Kirk joined the panel of speakers at a prestigious CLA event in Dorchester.

The event ‘Rural Tax: Know the ABC’ took place at the Wessex Royale Hotel in Dorchester last week, hosted by the CLA South West. The CLA is a membership organisation for owners of land, property and rural businesses in England and Wales.

Simon Cross, partner at Humphries Kirk and head of private client, joined an expert panel of speakers to discuss how to minimise tax bills. His presentation, entitled ‘C is for Continuity,’ covered a range of topics, including inheritance tax planning, agricultural and business property reliefs, HMRC treatment of ‘farmhouses’ and of ‘trading’ vs. ‘investment’ activities, as well as exploring relevant cases such as the ‘Balfour.’ Simon also spoke about the importance of Wills, Trusts and Powers of Attorney.

Simon commented: “It was a privilege to join the panel of speakers at this event. The seminar was aimed at CLA members and non-members, as well as students and YFC members.”

William Langer, CLA south west rural adviser and chairman of the seminar, commented: “It was a pleasure to welcome Humphries Kirk to talk at this CLA seminar. Together with CLA advisers, the seminar provided these industry specialists with the opportunity to share their expert knowledge on the ABC of tax issues facing rural businesses. It was an extremely informative evening that was enjoyed by all.”
