Last night, University Hospitals Dorset’s main construction contractor, Integrated Health Projects (IHP) held a charity Quiz night to raise funds to support patients across Dorset with cancer.
IHP and NHS staff came together for an evening of quizzical fun and entertainment at The Village Hotel in Bournemouth to raise as much as they could to support oncology teams in the Jigsaw Unit at Royal Bournemouth Hospital.
By putting their general knowledge to the test, more than 90 quiz lovers raised a total of £2,075 between donations on the night and to IHP’s online fundraiser.
The event took a different shape to most quiz nights with a construction element featuring a ‘tower’ building challenge that caused much competitive anticipation for the tallest Jenga challenge.
The overall winners were a team from the subcontractors WP Portsmouth called the ‘Beasts of the Breast’ who received winner’s certificates and a selection of wines.
IHP project director, Bruce Preston, said: “This evening was a significant celebration of the progress IHP have made with the transformation team on the BEACH Building over the last four years, with this being the third quiz night. We have been able to bring together teams from the new projects under IHP and Darwin, promoting the continued support of the UHD community through fundraising with the University Hospitals Dorset NHS Charity team for those extra special items for the NHS staff.”
IHP social value manager, Helen Denham, said: “We are delighted the evening has raised over £2,000 that is to be directed to the UHD Cancer Support teams. This is especially rewarding as we have colleagues and friends who have and are benefitting from their awesome care.”
In recent years, the trust’s main contractors have raised a total of more than £4,828 for University Hospitals Dorset NHS Charity. This has gone towards a new robotic tilt table for patients recovering from a stroke and now funds raised from last night’s quiz will support the Cancer Care Team.
University Hospitals Dorset NHS Charity Corporate Fundraiser, Hayley Harris, said: ‘It’s always amazing to see how the IHP team make this quiz night like no other. It is so much fun and behind it all is their passion to support patients across different areas of the trust in new ways each year. Not only are they working hard to build our new fantastic BEACH Building that will help transform care for Dorset, they have nailed their fundraising support for our staff, patients and people in the local community that depend on the cancer care provided at our hospitals.’
