Lewis-Manning Hospice Care’s Ringwood Charity Shop: A Vital Community Hub
Transforming Local Hospice Support Since September 2023
Since opening in September 2023, the Lewis-Manning Hospice Care charity shop at 15, Southampton Road in Ringwood has made a profound difference in the local community. The shop has played a crucial role in increasing awareness and funding for hospice services, allowing more patients in the area to receive the care they need.
Over the past six months (January – July 2024), 31 patients from Ringwood have accessed essential hospice services, compared to just seven patients in the same period before the shop’s opening. These services include the Lymphoedema Service, Breathlessness Service, Family Support and Bereavement, Occupational Therapy, and even transport to the Day Hospice in Poole through the hospice’s dedicated volunteer drivers. Additionally, Lewis-Manning has provided social support visits in patients’ homes, ensuring that care extends beyond medical needs.

A Shop Manager with Decades of Experience
At the heart of the Ringwood shop’s success is Shanie Brown, the dedicated shop manager with nearly 30 years of experience in charity retail. As a local resident, Shanie is passionate about the community and the shop’s role in supporting hospice care. Shanie advised,
“The shop has become a true community hub. It not only raises much-needed funds for the hospice, but it also offers a welcoming space for customers and volunteers alike. Every day, we see first-hand how generosity and kindness make a difference.”

Expanding House Clearance Services – Sustainability and Sensitivity
One of the shop’s most valuable services is its House Clearance Service, which has more than doubled in demand since the store opened. The house clearance team provides a vital service, often managing the belongings of a loved one after bereavement.
Shanie explains:
“We handle each clearance with care, compassion, and honesty. Many families come to us during emotionally difficult times, and we ensure their needs are met with sensitivity. We have even uncovered personal treasures that we’ve been able to return to families, which is incredibly rewarding.”
The house clearance service also contributes to sustainability, as it ensures a steady supply of quality pre-loved clothing, homeware, and furniture in the shop. Stock changes frequently, making the store a must-visit for bargain hunters and eco-conscious shoppers alike.

Volunteering – The Heart of the Community
The Ringwood shop has also created valuable volunteer opportunities. Starting with just four part-time volunteers at its launch, the team has now grown to 13—yet there is still a need for more helping hands. Volunteering is flexible, social, and rewarding, offering a great way to give back to the community while making new friends.
Volunteer Jackie, a Ringwood resident who joined the team in October 2023, shares her experience:
“As a local, I saw the store being prepared for its opening and was intrigued by how vibrant it looked. It coincided with my retirement, so I decided to get involved. It’s such a refreshing change in my life, and I love being part of this welcoming and fun team. I usually work one to two shifts per week, and it’s incredibly fulfilling.”
Anyone interested in volunteering is encouraged to contact the shop for more information.

Exciting New Monthly Prize Draw
To thank its loyal customers, the Ringwood shop is launching a new monthly prize draw. With every purchase made in-store, throughout March, April and May, shoppers will receive a raffle ticket. At the end of each month, three winners will be selected to receive a £20 voucher to spend in the shop—a fantastic way to give back to those who support hospice care through their purchases.
