A voluntary organisation that helps maintain The Broadway and other areas around Broadstone has been given a helping hand to buy more tools, equipment and plants – thanks to Morebus’ community Fund.
Broadstone in Bloom is a hard-working group of around eight people who meet up weekly to maintain local flowerbeds – alongside clearing litter – in The Broadway.
“We are a great enthusiastic group, who just want to make a difference to the area,” said Lisa Harvey from Broadstone in Bloom.
“The flowerbeds were neglected back in 1996, but Broadstone in Bloom has brought them back to life. We also hold a community litter pick every month to keep the area tidy, and encourage shopkeepers to purchase a hanging basket each year.
“We have no funding or help, and rely on the three plant sales we hold each year or kind public donations.
“One recent contribution is from Morebus – who have given us £200 towards new plants and equipment. This will go a long way in ensuring the flowerbeds at The Broadway are maintained over the coming months.”
Nikki Honer, Morebus head of communications, added: “The volunteers at Broadstone in Bloom do wonderful work for the local community. This is exactly the type of organisation the Morebus community fund is meant to help, and I’m delighted we have been able to contribute to some equipment and plants.
“I hope this will help maintain a cheery green space for people whilst they are at bus stops, looking out of their home, bus and car windows, or are just walking by.”
