New international standard demonstrates Eco’s safety commitment

A Dorset recycling and renewables company says its latest international standard demonstrates its commitment to a positive safety culture.

Parley-based Eco Sustainable Solutions has gained certification to ISO 45001.

The international standard for occupational health and safety is used and recognised across the world.

It provides a framework for identifying and assessing occupational health and safety risks.

By implementing the standard, organisations can enhance their safety performance and reduce the likelihood of accidents, injuries, and occupational illnesses.

Jamie Williams, Eco’s HSQE (Health, Safety, Quality, Environment) Manager, said: “This is the result of a lot of hard work.
“It’s really important to Eco as the safety and health of our team is our number one priority.

“A happy team with a positive safety culture is key to a successful business.”

Eco has also had its certifications to international standards ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 renewed.

ISO 9001 is a globally recognised standard for quality management systems (QMS) while ISO 14001 is the internationally recognised standard for environmental management systems (EMS).

Founded in 1995, Eco has an annual turnover of £17 million and employs 49 people.

As well Parley and Piddlehinton, the company also has a site at Weymouth.

From 1996 until 2023, Eco’s operations prevented 1.9 million tonnes of CO2 from being emitted to the atmosphere.

This was achieved through the recycling of over 1.2 million tonnes of green waste, 1.2 million tonnes of soil, 0.92 million tonnes of waste wood and 0.62 million tonnes of food waste.

The total tonnage of waste recycled since Eco opened its gates is now over 4 million tonnes.
