On Saturday 1st January 2022, Poole Runners organised the 36th Broadstone Quarter Marathon which starts/ends at the YMCA Bournemouth managed Junction Sports & Leisure Centre.
Having had to cancel 2021’s event due to the virus, everyone was extremely thankful that such a long-standing event could again take place.
- 500 Race Entries – Sold Out!
- Runners ranged from 16 to 81 years old
- Almost 100 Volunteers supplied by the passionate Poole Runners Club
- A challenging course of just over 6 ½ Miles
There was wonderful support and encouragement from local residents and traders, and a big thank you to Candy Chocs and Costa for their personal support.
Race Director, Penny Jarvis, said: "Poole Runners were delighted to be able to support The Junction again this year by holding the Broadstone Quarter Marathon. It is a well-established and popular event for New Years Day. There were a few anxious days before Christmas as restrictions were being announced with the Omicron variant spreading rapidly so we were very relieved when we found that there weren't going to be any more before race day. I would like to thank our fabulous army of volunteers who not only made sure the race was safe for runners and spectators. They also provided wonderful support to the runners, cheering them on when the going was getting tough."
Martin Stockley (Senior Operations Manager at YMCA) said “This charity fund-raising Race raised a fantastic £4,000+, and this will be spent as an investment in the YMCA Bournemouth managed Junction Sports & Leisure Centre in Broadstone. Specifically on equipment for the ever-growing 11–17-year-old market who benefit from a reduced monthly Membership offer (Only £10 Per Month!) to include Gym sessions and Swimming. This offer is only available due to the fantastic support of Broadstone’s Neighbourhood Watch Committee, and their sponsored arrangement of reduced Memberships to this age group.”
