Savills Secures Approval for the First Phase of AFC Bournemouth’s Vitality Stadium Expansion

Planning permission has been granted to AFC Bournemouth to begin works at Vitality Stadium with Savills Central South Planning team as one of the lead consultants. The Premier League football club seeks to carry out a major redevelopment and expansion of the Stadium – the largest in its history.

As a lead planning consultant, Savills is advising AFC Bournemouth on a wide range of aspects including landscape, sustainability, ecology, noise, air quality, development and economics to ensure the optimal result for the club’s works.

The multi-phase redevelopment could double the ground’s capacity from around 11,286 seats to 20,500, with the initial approved works including infrastructure upgrades such as a new perimeter fence and turnstiles, revised pedestrian and cycle routes, an outside broadcast area and the enclosure of terraces within the West Stand.

These initial measures are intended to bring meaningful improvement to infrastructure, safety, accessibility and matchday operations while preparing the site for larger construction to follow. Subject to further planning approvals, the first phase will be complete by the 2026/7 season with a second phase planned for completion by the 2027/8 season.

Peter Lamb, head of Wimborne Planning at Savills, said: “We’re delighted to be working with AFC Bournemouth and its design team on its stadium expansion, and securing approval for a package of enabling work from BCP Council represents a very important milestone. The project is a significant step forward for the club and local community, with a vision to create a larger, modern stadium that Cherries fans and the people of BCP can be proud of along with significant benefits for the local economy. We will continue to work closely with AFC Bournemouth and the Council to deliver the enabling works and the future of the Club at its ancestral home in King’s Park. It’s a project I am personally extremely excited about and proud to be a part of.”
