Speakers announced for Diverse Abilities’ Rugby Lunch

Diverse Abilities, Dorset’s disability charity, has announced the speakers for its Rugby Lunch at Hoburne Park, Christchurch, on Friday 16 September.

The Rugby Lunch includes great entertainment, networking opportunities, and guest celebrity appearances from Tom Shanklin – former Welsh Rugby Union player who played outside centre for Cardiff Blues and Wales and has scored 20 tries for his country, placing him 5th equal (with Gerald Davis and Gareth Edwards) on the list of record try-scorers for Wales, and David Flatman – former prop for Bath and the England national rugby team turned pundit.

Over the past 11 years the event has raised a combined total of more than £260,000. Funds raised at the event ensure the charity can continue to make a difference to children and adults living with physical and learning disabilities in the county, and their families.

Lucy Rowley, events officer at Diverse Abilities, said: “If you’re a rugby fan, then this is the perfect event for you, so get in quick and get your tickets. We’re so thrilled to have Tom Shanklin and David Flatman join us for the day – they’ll be sure to entertain us with their stories and make it an excellent event.”

The sporting lunch kicks off at 12pm with welcome drinks and a VIP reception for sponsors, before guests take their seats for a three-course meal and hear from the celebrity guest speakers. There will also be an opportunity to win the famous Knife, Fork, and Spoon game, raffle prizes, and auction lots, of which prizes are donated from local businesses and the community.

David Flatman added: “I’m really looking forward to speaking at the Diverse Abilities Rugby Lunch. It’s great to be supporting such a worthy cause, and to share some great anecdotes.”
