The Dolphin Poole is proud to support Lighthouse in welcoming residents to the first Poole Pride event on Saturday, June 8 2024.
Poole Pride will bring the community together for a full day of inclusive entertainment, free for everyone to enjoy. The inaugural event will celebrate LGBTQ+ culture through a series of vibrant, and family-friendly activities. Lighthouse will host cabaret, theatre, spoken word performances, and exhibitions, supported by local organisations throughout the day.
The Proud Pooches Dog Show parade will be taking place at 2.30pm throughout The Dolphin before the main show at 4.00pm. The Proud Pooches Dog Show will be presented by BBC children’s television presenter, Chris Jarvis. This Lighthouse event, supported by award-winning local business Marshalls Pet Store, includes a doggy disco, fashion show, and doppelgangers competition. John Grinnell, Centre Manager of The Dolphin Poole, said: “Celebrating our town’s diversity has always been at the heart of The Dolphin. Previously we’ve welcomed Space Youth Project and Body Positive Dorset to provide resources and support for the LGBTQ+ community during Pride month.
“This year, it is a privilege to be partnering with Lighthouse to deliver a varied and comprehensive programme of free events for the first official Poole Pride. All are welcome to come together and celebrate.”
Local artists will host a variety of sessions and performances at Lighthouse and The Dolphin throughout the day. Activities include Pop ‘n’ Olly Storytelling and Crafts, the Come On Out Cabaret and OutSpoken, a Pride poetry slam.
Space Youth Project will be hosting free-to-attend educational sessions in GATHER at The Dolphin Poole on 14th, 19th, 23rd and 27th June. These sessions will focus on signposting, accessing important resources, and highlighting the support that is available to the LGBTQ+ community in Dorset.
Tim Colegate, Head of Programming at Lighthouse, said: “Poole Pride is a celebration of our wonderful community in all its beautiful identities so come as you are and join in the fun on 8th June. It’s a pleasure to work with The Dolphin and other local businesses to create a special day of inclusivity that will put Poole firmly on the Pride map.”
