The final countdown for Jon’s marathon challenge for Julia’s House

In less than a week, Inspire’s Advisory Manager, Jon Huggins will be running in this year’s Purbeck Marathon, raising money for Julia’s House Children’s Hospice.

Over the last fortnight, as part of his final few training sessions, Jon has completed 123 miles, 16 hours of running and climbed a total elevation of 2,085m!

He’s had an interesting juggling act – just a couple of weeks after the marathon, Jon gets married, so he’s been busy fitting in training runs alongside work and wedding planning and preparations!

Although he’s competed in several half-marathons before, the Purbeck Marathon will be Jon’s first full 26-mile race and he’s found breaking the 20-mile barrier a real challenge.

Jon said: “The training and preparation for the marathon has been a real learning curve for me, I’ve so far completed three runs at 20 + miles, but for the first two I really struggled past the 14-mile mark.

“For the third long run I reduced my pace and concentrated more on fuelling my body at the right time and made it through to 22 miles, feeling much stronger, which has boosted my confidence for race day!

“I now can’t wait to get to the start line and raise as much money as possible for Julia’s House.”
