Trethowans appoints new agriculture and rural property partner

Trethowans, a UK Top 150 law firm based in Winchester, has appointed a new partner with over 40 years of experience to head up its agricultural and rural property team in Winchester.

Caroline-Lindon Morris, who originally practised in corporate and commercial law before specialising in agriculture, joined Trethowans on 25 April following seven successful years at another legal firm in the area.

In her new role at Trethowans, Caroline will lead on the sale and purchase of agricultural properties and the partitioning of landed estates and farming businesses where older generations are passing it down but dividing it amongst multiple parties (usually their children).

She will also handle agricultural and farm business tenancies, farm partnership agreements and payments made to farmers for oil pipelines and electricity infrastructure such as pylons running through their land.

“I was attracted to Trethowans because it has a large agricultural team, a wide breadth of expertise and a reputation for providing the best possible service”, said Caroline. “I am very excited to join the firm and looking forward to advising farmers and rural landowners in and around Winchester.”

She continued: “My plan is to use my experience to enrich the firm’s agricultural expertise and expand into territories such as the Meon Valley and Hampshire, which has a diverse and prosperous farming community. The team has given me a warm welcome, so I am settling in well.”

Caroline will also work alongside Trethowans’ private client lawyers, who deal with issues relevant to agriculture, such as advising on trusts and property. She will also have cross-sector support from teams in other areas of law such as banking, planning and employment.
