Trethowans Appoints Sue Clark as Partner and Head of Court of Protection

Trethowans is pleased to announce the appointment of Sue Clark as Partner and Head of Court of Protection, further strengthening the firm’s specialist support for vulnerable individuals and their families.

Sue is a highly respected Court of Protection specialist with significant expertise in Deputyships, Personal Injury Trusts, Statutory Wills and a wide range of issues relating to mental incapacity. She brings many years of experience acting both as a professional deputy and in supporting lay deputies through the application process and with their ongoing duties, providing clear, empathetic guidance at every stage.

Sue is particularly well known for her work with individuals who have acquired brain injuries resulting in personal injury awards and who need long-term, hands-on support with managing their property and financial affairs. She also has extensive experience managing major property adaptations for people with lifelong conditions, guiding families through each phase from the property search and planning, to project management and completion.

Her professional expertise is strengthened by valuable personal insight. Sue has first-hand experience of the challenges faced by families supporting loved ones with learning difficulties, Autism, Dementia and other neurological conditions. This background underpins her compassionate and practical approach to helping clients navigate the complexities of the Court of Protection system. She also maintains a strong personal commitment to charitable work, particularly in support of Priors Court (Autism education and care charity) and NeuroDiversity Hampshire.

As a member of the advisory board for SENDA, Sue provides guidance to families of vulnerable people, and the professionals supporting them, to enable them to make informed decisions with regards to financial and future planning.

Sue is an accredited member of the Association of Lifetime Lawyers (formerly Solicitors for the Elderly), an Associate Member of STEP with an Advanced Certificate in Advising Vulnerable Clients, and a member of both the Professional Deputies Forum and the Court of Protection Practitioners Association. These affiliations ensure she remains closely connected to developments affecting vulnerable clients and best practice within the profession.
