The Bournemouth and Poole offices of Trethowans have raised just under £5,000 over the past year for their chosen charity, Hope For Food, through a variety of fundraising initiatives.
The charity, based in Bournemouth, aims to provide day to day essentials to people in the local community who are most in need, including those who have been financially affected by the Coronavirus.
Hope For Food, set up and operated entirely by volunteers, runs five soup kitchens per week and supplies hampers of food, good quality clothing, bedding and household goods where needed.
To raise the money, people at Trethowans threw themselves wholeheartedly into a range of fundraising activities including monthly cake sales, dress down days, a Grand National sweepstake, and an office-wide lottery.
Employees were also treated to home-made lasagne, chilli jacket potatoes and bacon rolls, which were sold at lunch time to raise additional money, while one lucky employee took home a wheelbarrow full of wine raffled off just in time for summer.
Trethowans has been operating as a food drop of point for the charity and last year even ran a ‘Reverse Advent Calendar’ scheme where employees were encouraged to donate non-perishable food items every day during advent.
This resulted in the delivery of at least eight boxes, overflowing with food, toiletries and selection boxes – just in time for Christmas.
Earlier this year the Give It Up For Lent scheme saw employees donate foods they would usually give up and instead give away their chocolate and crisps to the charity.
Chris Whiteley, Managing Partner at Trethowans commented, “Hope For Food provides people living in our community, who would otherwise go hungry due to homelessness or poverty, with a safe place to turn.
“As a team, we’re truly inspired by the efforts of the volunteers who work tirelessly to ensure that those in need have access to hot food and drinks for all 52 weeks of the year, and we’re pleased to know that the money we have raised is going towards this wonderful cause.”
