Uni Students Re-brand Renowned Holiday Club

A prestigious family of 20 day nurseries based in Dorset, Hampshire, Wiltshire, Somerset and Devon have recently re-branded their after school and holiday club, with the support of Graphic Design students at Arts University Bournemouth.

The Arts University Bournemouth sought the support of Tops Day Nurseries for a project for their Year 2 design students. The Tops Day Nurseries marketing team met with over 20 AUB students late last year to offer them the opportunity to work on a live project, giving them great experience which would fit within their curriculum and allow them to use their initiative.

The project was to design a new logo and branding for a brand new afterschool and holiday club, Hi 5’s.

Hi 5’s club was a name chosen by the children attending what was formally known as Mini Beasts after school and holiday club, which caters for children aged between 5-14 and has 11 clubs across the South Coast.  With the name chosen, the club needed a fresh new design which would appeal to not only the children, but the parents too. The winning logo was designed by Jamie Newman and Ross Lowe, both 2nd year design students at AUB.

Zoe Roberts, Sales and Marketing Manager said “We provided the students with an open brief, allowing them to let their creative talents flow which gave us a number of impressive designs to look at.

Before tasking the AUB students with the project, we had approached a couple of professional designers who produced some quality logos; however they were not quite right. We were looking for something that was completely different but could be incorporated into our Tops Day Nurseries branding.

The designs created by Jamie and Ross really stood out to us. They took into account our current branding and presented the designs in a number of ways which was brilliant to see.”

Furthering the collaboration between Tops Day Nurseries and AUB, Senior Graphic Design Lecturer, Alice Stevens assisted the Founder of Tops Day Nurseries, Cheryl Hadland on judging the recently concluded glitter competition.

Alice, who is also Jamie and Ross’s lecturer commented “I am delighted Jamie and Ross’s design has been chosen to represent part of the Tops Day Nurseries brand for the new Hi 5’s club.

I am pleased to be working with a company that have not only given the students an opportunity that will enhance their experiences using a real brief and project, but is also passionate about sustainability as is AUB.”

Tops Day Nurseries hope to continue to work with Arts University Bournemouth, and have confidence that the brilliant logo designed by Jamie and Ross will prove popular with local families.
