Volvo SUVs claim double honours in 2021 Company Car Today CCT100 Awards

  • XC40 compact SUV wins Premium Crossover award for the third year running, commended by the judges as the “dominant force” in its segment
  •    XC60 mid-size SUV takes top honour in the Premium SUV category, rewarded for its “excellent running costs and efficiency”
  •    Volvo further praised for its deployment of plug-in hybrid and mild-hybrid technology in its UK model range

The Volvo XC40 has scored an impressive hat-trick of wins, taking its third successive Premium Crossover title in the Company Car Today CCT100 Awards. This year, Volvo doubled up on its honours tally, with the mid-size XC60 winning the Premium SUV award.

The results confirm the XC40’s status as the strongest proposition in the highly competitive compact SUV market, where it was the UK’s best-selling model overall in 2020.

The XC40 and XC60’s appeal to business customers is founded on the efficiency of their powertrains (including multiple plug-in hybrid and mild-hybrid options), their running costs, premium quality, desirability, generous equipment levels and cutting-edge safety technology.

Paul Barker, Company Car Today Editor, commented: “A pair of wins for Volvo in our CCT100 Awards illustrates once more what a high-quality job the brand is doing with its latest model line-up and what a strong case it makes in the company car sector.

The XC40 is the dominant force in the premium crossover segment thanks to its striking styling, practicality and cost efficiency, while the XC60’s excellent running costs and efficiency saw it take victory in the Premium SUV class. Both cars have successfully deployed plug-in hybrid and mild-hybrid tech to great effect, and are excellent choices for company car drivers.”

Rob Morris, Volvo Car UK’s Head of Fleet and Remarketing, said: “These awards demonstrate the genuine value our SUVs provide business customers, for whom efficiency and running costs are critical factors when making a purchase decision. With our electrification programme, we are strengthening these qualities while retaining all the impressive style, practicality and advanced technology that set these cars apart in their classes.

These results continue a strong performance by Volvo since the Company Car Today CCT100 Awards were introduced in 2018. In the first year, the V40 and XC90 respectively won the Premium Lower Medium and Large SUV classes, while in 2019 the XC40 began its run of three successive wins in the Premium Crossover category. In 2020, the XC90 repeated its earlier success, as did the XC40.

The Company Car Today CCT100 Awards are determined on a range of key factors that cover the priorities for business car customers, including emissions, price, running costs, tax ratings, practicality, desirability and the driving experience. An expert judging panel produces a shortlist of five models which best meet these criteria before selecting the overall winners.
