Welcome to The ‘R’ Zone

By 2030 nearly 50% of employees in the UK will by over 50. People in this group bring unique experience, skills, wisdom and a capacity to mentor and yet, most feel disengaged believing they have been sidelined from training and development, career opportunities and chances for involvement in exciting team projects. Productivity suffers, as do opportunities to build sparkling legacies and enrich future managers with key skills and insights.

At the same time many in their late careers turn their thoughts to transitioning from full time work or business ownership to moving into retirements – a word that nowadays can stand for many blends of work, chores and pleasure. Most people are vastly under-prepared for retirements and many unfortunately suffer serious anxiety and depression. High performers are particularly prone – related to a need for achievement sometimes referred to as the ‘strivers-curse’.

Financial preparation is vital, yet so is planning to deal with a potential identity vacuum, change of status, relationship transitions, abundant leisure time, care duties and your own health.  Ideally planning should take place a few years before such a major life adjustment. Yes, people often plan their initial holidays and fun (the so called ‘honeymoon’ or ‘sugar rush’ of retirement) and yet rarely do they look beyond this. Planning and early actions improve outcomes.

The ‘R’ Zone tackles both of these issues, i.e. late careers and retirement transitions, head-on.

Bringing skills, experience and qualifications from leadership development, workforce strategy, professional coaching and retirement coaching we help employers and individuals deep-dive into these areas and develop new and better approaches. Our mantra is ‘Maximising the productivity of late-careers: Pathways towards fruitful ‘retirements’.

We run workshops, think tanks and coaching sessions engaging HR and leadership teams  AND separately with teams and individuals who are in the ‘R’ Zone.

We are just getting started, yet have sessions coming up in The Shard, with Warwick Business School and with a number of local businesses.

We researched and developed this thoroughly and strongly believe addressing these areas is good for business and good for lives.

As members and fans of Dorset Chamber, we would be delighted to talk further.
