What a Year for Tops Bearwood
Teaching our future generation how to help save the planet!
As we start the new year, Tops Bearwood, a day nursery on Magna Road, have reflected on all their achievements in 2022.
With the aim of driving change throughout the early years sector and inspiring others to be sustainable, Bearwood have spent 2022 avoiding all one-use plastics, providing children with nutritious no-added sugar meals, and using only reusable nappies, in fact, Tops Bearwood have saved over 6500 disposable nappies going into landfill in only 8 months, this equates to 1,267,500g in weight.
The nursery is also one of a few Tops Day Nurseries that have solar panels installed. Helping to keep electricity costs down and promoting reusable energy.
2022 was also the year that Tops Bearwood was officially opened by MP Michael Tomlinson. This event had Michael plant an apple tree in the grounds with the children and MD Cheryl Hadland, to teach children where apples come from, and to help clean the air around the nursery. There were also refreshments provided by the inhouse catering team which included food from Tops’ no added sugar menus, containing fresh ingredients from local farm, Sopley Salads.
Tops Bearwood have also planted 3 trees onsite in just 3 months as well as have a natural low hedgerow which will encourage pollination and wildlife.
The day nursery and preschool are part of Tops Day Nurseries, an award-winning nursery chain with over 30 nurseries across the South and Southwest. Tops were awarded a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development in 2022.
Lauren Hixson, Senior Nursery Manager at Tops Bearwood, said; “Tops Bearwood is the first full time nursery in Bearwood, and we are delighted to be able to provide full day care, sessions, and longer days to suit family’s needs. We are Bearwood Primary school’s primary preferred before and after school care giver.
We are so proud of everything we achieved in 2022 and this year we plan to continue to grow our relationships within the community as well as help to make it a safe place for children and families to be able to strive for their goals. We have a fabulous free-flow garden, and the children will also have access to Forest School and cooking school activities this year. We are constantly adding to our resources to enable children to become independent, conflict resolution, developing imagination and be ready for school and their next steps in life. We cannot wait share our journeys together, look out for our ‘fun days’ that are coming this year which you are all invited to or contact us to arrange a viewing at any time”.
Tops Bearwood provides eco-sustainable Early Education and Care for children aged 3 months to 4 years old.
