NFU Mutual Wessex is delighted to be sponsoring ‘Ride the Trafalgar Way’, a 500k cycle ride due to take place on the 28th and 29th September. Ride the Trafalgar Way is one of the most historic long distance cycle rides in the UK. The route closely follows the one taken by Lieutenant John Richards Lapenotiere to carry news from Falmouth to London of Britain’s victory at the Battle of Trafalgar.
While Lapenotiere’s journey took 37 hours using horses, Ride the Trafalgar Way cyclists must now complete the ride in under 34 hours on their own trusty steeds. The route starts in Falmouth and passes through Devon, Dorset, Wiltshire, Hampshire and Surrey before finishing in London.
Participating cyclists will make a pit stop in Salisbury, close to NFU Mutual Wessex’s Salisbury office. This gives the local community a fantastic opportunity to watch the event and cheer participants on their way.
The event is founded, delivered and managed Jim Bellinger, one the UK’s leading major sporting events consultants, and has been designed every step of the way with cyclists in mind.
Jim Bellinger, Event Director of Ride The Trafalgar Way said: “Delivering and safely managing an event of this distance and timescale is a logistical challenge. The support provided by NFU Mutual Wessex means we can safely deliver a fantastic experience to our riders, some of whom are riding to raise money for great charitable causes.
