Dorset Chamber highlights important changes ahead for all UK businesses that export or import goods
With little over four and half months to go, it is vital that all businesses moving goods between the UK and the EU take action to get ready for a new border operating environment from 1st January 2021. It is clear that businesses need to prepare for a significantly higher level of customs declarations and associated administration.
New border procedures for importing and exporting goods to and from the EU will be in place. Traders importing ‘standard goods’ – covering everything from clothes to electronics – will need to prepare for new customs paperwork. You will also need to keep specific records of imported goods.
The Rt Hon Michael Gove, Chancellor for the Duchy of Lancaster and Minister for the Cabinet Office, has written to businesses laying out clear steps that businesses moving goods between the UK and EU and GB and NI must take, including speaking to your accredited Chamber of Commerce, locally Dorset Chamber, who can advise you on documentation you will need. To support this, Dorset Chamber has teamed up with the British Chambers of Commerce to hold an important event “New UK Border Controls – What it means for your business.” This event is free and open to all businesses and our expert speakers will provide insight and comment on the new UK Border Operating Model and advise on the actions you need to engage in now as well as discuss specific funding available for businesses to prepare for the new arrangements.
