The Dorset Children’s Foundation is launching urgent appeal for Imogen

Local charity The Dorset Children’s Foundation is launching this urgent appeal to help Imogen who is just just 7 years old and has Cerebral Palsy (CP).

This means she has very poor muscle tone and her tendons are so tight that if untreated sadly she will have to spend her life in a wheelchair.

However, there is now hope as Imogen has been offered an operation through the NHS which is a procedure performed on the lower spinal cord, called an SDR operation (Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy Procedure).

During the operation the nerves that are causing too much muscle tone and spasticity, are cut. This will result in better range of movement and less tension in the muscle.

This is a massive operation and requires a minimum of 2 years post-surgery Physiotherapy.

Imogen’s family have recently received a phone call from Bristol Hospital saying they want to perform surgery at the end of November!

Due to Covid-19 all Imogen’s many fundraising events have been cancelled and we desperately need to raise £10,000 for the vital post-operative therapy that is not covered on the NHS.

The Dorset Children’s Foundation want to help make this happen and are reaching out to their supporters and the local community.

Patsy Hallmey Co-Founder of The Dorset Children’s Foundation said: ‘As a charity we have personally supported 7 children through this same operation and it has made a huge difference to their lives and independence. I’ve seen it with my own eyes, children who can now walk but would have been full-time wheelchair users. However, the Physio-Therapy is absolutely vital. Imogen and her family have a lot of work ahead of them and we want to support them financially and help in any way we can. It will all be well worth it in the end and make a huge difference to this little girl’s life.

Please donate if you can via the Virgin Money Giving page on the DCF website. Anything you could do to help would be massively appreciated.
