Westover set the songs of the summer

After conducting a customer and staff poll, the Westover Group, which is part of the UK’s largest network of motor dealerships, has concluded the ultimate summer road trip playlist for 2019.

With summer officially here from June 21, for many that means one thing – road trip season – and great driving songs are a summer essential. Whether off to visit family or the car is full of tents heading to a festival, it’s always been the music that’s made getting there part of the experience.

To conclude the ultimate summer road trip playlist for this year, Westover Group conducted a survey amongst staff and customers. The top 10 car songs to be played on all road-trips this summer include some musical masterpieces and all-time driving classics:

  1. The Chain, Fleetwood Mac
  2. One Day Like This – Elbow
  3. Fast Car, Tracie Chapman
  4. Bohemian Rhapsody, Queen
  5. Hotel California, The Eagles
  6. Teenage Kicks, The Undertones
  7. Buck Rogers, Feeder
  8. Californication, Red Hot Chilli Peppers
  9. We Found Love, Calvin Harris ft Rihanna
  10. I’m Gonna Be (500 miles) The Proclaimers

Since its establishment in 1923, Westover Group has seen huge development in the vehicles on its forecourt. Car entertainment systems have been through some major changes and now allow drivers to fully enjoy the road-trip experience; from cassette tapes to CDs, CDs to MP3 players and now Bluetooth functions.

For many customers the built-in entertainment system is high on the priority list when purchasing a car. Many models in the Westover portfolio now include a built-in sat nav, freeing up space in glovebox. Recent developments include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto; these systems put getting directions, making calls, and listening to music, all within the car system itself.

Last year, Fiat partnered with Waze on their latest Fiat Panda, giving access to one of the most up to date navigation systems. Drivers can add points on where there are road works, potholes or other obstructions in the road – helping other drivers to avoid or potentially re-route.

Jaguar Land Rover vehicles feature Dual View as an upgrade allowing the driver to see the sat nav while the passenger can catch up on the news on TV mode.

SKODA has just introduced their Virtual Cockpit; a new fully programmable digital instrument panel, which gives customers the option to replace traditional analogue dials and gauges, with a high-definition electronic display.

Mark Whittam, operations director at the Westover Group said: “Looking back, the automotive industry has been through some ground-breaking changes, even in recent years. I am pleased that there are so many options for our customers to choose from when it comes to in-car entertainment. Modern systems allow drivers and their passengers to make comfortable, enjoyable and safe journeys. I certainly enjoy blasting Fleetwood Mac through the car on a sunny morning school run.”

Established in 1923, the Westover Group operates from 28 locations across Dorset and Wiltshire and represents 15 vehicle manufacturers – Abarth, Alfa Romeo, Dacia, Fiat, Hyundai, Jaguar, Jeep, Kia, Land Rover, Lexus, Lotus, Nissan, Renault, Skoda and Toyota.  The motor firm is now part of the Hendy Group.
