Bid for a Green Motor Sport event for Bournemouth in 2023

A team of business people fronted by Tony Williams of Wessex Ventures has announced a goal to bring a Formula E event or alternative Green Motor Sport event to Bournemouth in 2023.

Using the attraction and backdrop of a Green GP / Formula E we intend to draw an audience to support businesses to thrive. A Green GP / Formula-E will be a tourism and business leveraging event set to drive positive economic & tourism impacts and tangible community benefits, promoting the region as a major international tourist & business destination. As well as 1st class entertainment this will help to raise awareness and use of electric vehicles because they are the future of sustainable transportation, the key to lowering global greenhouse gas emissions in the transport industry and part of the solution to improving air pollution in city centres.

The event will significantly inject the area with commercial opportunity and promote it as a forward-thinking thriving arena for the business and hospitality industries on a global level.

Initial concept planning is to develop a project framework to bring a Formula E event to Bournemouth town centre via a phased approached. This phased approach will consist of a one- day event in year one, building to an annual weeks long Monaco format with opportunities for ancillary events to take place across the local area. For example, track side experiences that show-case local businesses including hospitality, leisure & hotels.

Developed over 3 years as part of a Bournemouth major events programme offering and complementing the Air Show. Organisers believe an internationally connected air and sea the event will firmly place the conurbation on the map and position the town as the gate way to the rest of Dorset.

A Green GP / Formula-E will be a tourism and business leveraging event set to drive positive economic & tourism impacts and tangible community benefits, promoting the region as major international tourist & business destination. Conversations have already begun with several major local influencing brands in bringing the event to the town.

Tony Williams told Dorset Chamber: “The Bournemouth eGrand Prix concept seeks to bring together all the economic agencies in Dorset, most especially the micro and mini enterprises that have suffered more than most during the pandemic. The Chamber has done sterling work during these challenging times. Joining with Wessex Entrepreneurs and the Dorset Growth Hub, together with the Dorset Local Enterprise Partnership and Local Authorities makes us all so much stronger, it  brings the prospect of success”.
