Dolphin Shopping Centre’s rooftop honey is the bee’s knees

The Dolphin Shopping Centre in Poole has raised more than £556 from the proceeds of its ‘Rooftop Honey’ for the local Chestnut Nursery charity.

This is a part of a longstanding relationship between the centre and charity, with the team previously donating all proceeds from its ‘Rooftop Honey’, which is made onsite at the centre’s sustainable rooftop garden. In the past, Chestnut Nursery has had a pop-up shop at the centre while its original premises were being refurbished.

Lisa King, Retail Liaison Manager at the Dolphin Shopping Centre, commented: “We are delighted to donate all proceeds from our ‘Rooftop Honey’ sales to our friends at Chestnut Nursery. It’s excellent to have the opportunity to donate to such a worthwhile cause and we hope to continue our partnership with the charity in future.”

Chestnut Nursery uses horticulture to help adults with severe mental illnesses across the county. The money donated by the Dolphin Shopping Centre will contribute towards helping volunteers to restore their mental wellbeing through the charity’s ecotherapy services.

Andy Verreck, Manager of Chestnut Nursery, thanked the Dolphin Shopping Centre, explaining: “The generous donation that we received this year will help Chestnut Nursery in so many ways. For example, we have been able to purchase protective gear for our volunteers, to enable the good work which we do here to continue.”

The Dolphin’s beehives are part of a wider commitment to becoming an environmentally sustainable centre. The rooftop garden is an innovative space, home to the beehives and various flowerbeds, encouraging the growth of vegetables and herbs. This follows the centre being recognised nationally for its sustainability in the 2019 ICSC Marketing Awards.
