Drewlec Provides Fire Alarm Upgrade For Sovereign Housing

Bournemouth-based Drewlec, the electrical services arm of The Drewitt Group, has provided a full upgrade to the fire alarm system used at Sovereign House, Parkstone.

The 12-storey accommodation block serves as the main residence for medical and nursing staff primarily working at Poole Hospital. Drewlec has been servicing Autronica Fire Alarms on the site for 10 years.

Richard Drewitt, managing director of The Drewitt Group, commented: “The team at Sovereign Housing have been fantastic to work with over the past 10 years, and we are proud to have delivered an updated system along with routine maintenance within this time.”

A phased approach with careful planning was established with Sovereign Housing and included enhancements to improve automatic fire coverage across the site to develop fire safety and give early warning to occupants of a fire.

The whole system was replaced using existing wiring but included a new Autronical Autrosafe control panel and repeater information panel for firemen. A total of 426 smoke detector heads were replaced during the six-week work period, these were replaced in phases to minimise system down time.

Sovereign Housing’s new system has a life span of 20 to 30 years and will be regularly maintained.
