On 26 August 2020, there were further updates to the Coronavirus related statutory sick pay Regulations and entitlement.
Entitlement to Statutory Sick Pay extended to employees advised to self-isolate for 14 days prior to an operation.
The Regulations extend the entitlement to statutory sick pay (SSP) to employees who:
- Have been notified in writing by a registered medical practitioner (or other person or body permitted to make the notification) that they are to undergo a surgical or other hospital procedure.
- Have been advised to stay at home for a period of up to 14 days before their admission date to hospital for the operation.
- Stay at home in accordance with that advice.
The rules only apply to employees who, due to self-isolation, are absent from work. Therefore, any employee who can work from home while self-isolating before an operation will be paid in their normal way.
