Helping Hand For Safewise

Two groups of volunteers from the J.P. Morgan Good Works programme each spent a day in helping to accomplish a makeover at the SafeWise Bournemouth premises. This included painting of the house; clearing the existing playground; building a wall and putting up a fence.

Diana Newbury, Partnerships Manager, said “The volunteer work parties from J.P. Morgan were instrumental in helping SafeWise to introduce a much wider range of targeted programmes through the upgrade of scenarios within the life skills village. The two-storey house including a hall, kitchen, lounge, dining room, bathroom and bedsit was given a complete makeover and now looks modern and fresh.

The teams worked really hard to produce a significant upgrade in just two days and we are delighted

with the results. Visitors to the centre have been very positive and complimentary about the changes.

We are very grateful to the J.P. Morgan volunteer work parties for making such a difference to our

village and also to the company for making a financial contribution of over £700.00 towards the cost of the refurbishment.”

J.P. Morgan employs 4,000 people at its technology and operations centre in Bournemouth and has a strong history of community engagement.

Having recently adopted an exciting new business plan, SafeWise now has targeted and specific educational programmes.

Diana added: The new Skills for Life Agenda sees SafeWise respond to and meet current needs of key groups in the 21st century. That will include working with parents and carers of under-fives, Key Stage 1, 2 & 3, young adults aged 16-25 leaving home for the first time, over 55’s and Special Educational Needs & Disability (SEND). Our new strategy is to replace generic visitor tours focussed on safety alone with a whole ‘skills for life’ agenda including health & well-being, mental health, financial planning, online safety and healthy eating as well as road, home and fire safety.
