Dorset’s disability charity, Diverse Abilities, adapted its annual Sing to Raise campaign so it could still go ahead despite government lockdown guidance from the global pandemic, and raised more then £1,000 in the process.
Usually held within pubs and local music venues, Sing to Raise performers raise money for the charity throughout the month of May from ticket sales, raffles, merchandise sales and bucket collections in the venues.
The charity chose to host a series of live music performances using social media. Performances came from Gecko and the Bee, David Mein Music, I Can’t Believe It’s Not A Folk Club, Luke Dubyah and Charlie Cheese’s Not So Silent School Disco, Lucas Hardy, and Aaron Gibson.
A total of £1,197.95 was raised throughout May for the charity towards its Emergency Appeal.
Cat Abbott, marketing manager at Diverse Abilities, commented: “It has been absolutely amazing to see people coming together throughout the last few months to create small moments of positivity for everyone to enjoy. We are so thankful to everyone who has donated, it means a huge amount to us and helps us to continue providing care for some of the most vulnerable in our communities.”
