Successful start to the Pictures for the Beehive roadshow

Pictures for The Beehive, the art tour raising funds for Diverse Abilities’ Splash Appeal started in July visiting St. Peter’s Church, in Bournemouth, and Salisbury Cathedral.

The exhibition successfully raised £400 over the two locations, and staff and volunteers had the opportunity to speak to a range of people to raise awareness about disability in the community, The Splash Appeal itself, and talk about the drawings of the people supported at The Beehive activity and therapy centre.

Funds raised will go towards The Splash Appeal, which aims to raise more than £1million to build a much-needed state-of-the-art therapy pool for the adult’s supported to the charity, who currently do not have the access they need to hydrotherapy.

Henrietta Young, artist and curator, commented: “It was a great privilege to get to know and make friends with the people at The Beehive, and the whole business of drawing and being drawn was an extraordinary experience for everyone involved in the project. It’s been fantastic to take these pictures out into the community and share with both local people and national and international visitors.”

Helen Mortimer, development manager at Diverse Abilities, added: “It’s been great to take these fantastic pictures on tour. Starting off in Bournemouth allowed some of the people we support at The Beehive to come and see their pictures on display, which was a great experience and we saw lots of proud and smiling faces. Moving on to Salisbury Cathedral let us showcase the work to a new audience in a stunning environment. We want to thank everyone who came to see us, and we can’t wait to continue the tour in Suffolk, Kent, and London.”
