Weymouth College Student Awards 2022 – a true celebration of achievement

On 26th May Weymouth College was pleased to welcome student award winners – and their families and friends – to campus for the Weymouth College Student Awards 2022. This year’s awards are the College’s first in-person Student Awards since 2019 – making the event particularly special.

The College refectory was once again transformed for the evening and the students, their guests, and Weymouth College staff were entertained by performing arts students Shannon Hale, James Newstead and Mersey Moore before enjoying a three-course meal – created and served by the students of the College’s Avenue Restaurant.

The evening’s main event was the celebration of the College’s outstanding students and Principal Julia Howe was pleased to welcome  Richard Drax MP and Steve Webb – Chair of the Weymouth College Corporation – to present the awards.

Many levels of achievement – academic and personal – were celebrated during the evening, with 28 winners recognised in over 25 categories.   The final award of the evening – The Principal’s Award – was made by Julia Howe to Tanisha Ring a Level 2 Diploma in Cookery student.

The College’s chef lecturers were unanimous in their support for Tanisha with her citation reading:

‘Tanisha has had an incredible year as a level 2 catering student – continually pushing herself to be the best she can possibly be, perfecting her dishes at every opportunity and producing DISTINCTION level work in all her assessments both practical and theory based.
Tanisha has represented the college in local and national competitions – competing against more established chefs with greater industry experience and gaining confidence with each event – and has been highly commended for both her cooking skills and her approach.
Tanisha is a truly hard-working and dedicated student – a superb role model for her peers and juniors alike – and a great representative of Weymouth College’.
