The Jack Douch award for cricket in the community has been presented to the Blandford Cricket Club chairman Dave Abbott.
The trophy is given in memory of the late Jack Douch whose family company sponsored cricket in the county for more than a decade through its Dorset Funeral Plan.
He was a huge fan of the sport and after he died 12 years ago the family introduced the award in his honour.
Peter Short from the group’s Lesley Shand Funeral Service in Blandford made the presentation.
He said: “As with all Douch Family Funeral Directors’ branches we aim to be fully involved in our community.
“So it’s great news that the cricket club won this award which is given to clubs whose community work goes above and beyond.
“We are always happy for people to pop in and have a look at our facilities which includes a 40-seater ceremony room.”
Dave Abbott said: “I know how much Jack Douch loved cricket in the county so to win the award is a feather in our cap.
“We also received £400 which will be well spent and used to improve our facilities.
“The cub has three senior men’s teams plus a women’s side and we have cricket for all age groups for boys and girls.
“We have wonderful volunteers who put in a lot of time and this trophy is really for them.”
