Dorset set to get dirty at Lewis-Manning’s Muddy Dog Dash in Upton Country Park!

Lewis-Manning Hospice Care has launched its inaugural ‘Muddy Dog Dash’ event and is urging dog owners to come on board and register to take part in what promises to be a brilliantly fun…and muddy event!

The 2km and 4km ‘Muddy Dog Dash’, which has the headline sponsor as house builder Barratt Homes, takes place on Sunday 26th March at Upton Country Park and runners, joggers and walkers can tackle the fun obstacle course, with or without a dog.

Participants can choose between a 2km and 4km circuit, depending on whatever ability suits them. The day will finish with a podium finish, where participants and their furry friend can collect a rosette and certificate, to proudly wear and show everyone how they completed the muddy challenge.

Ruth Wright, Area Fundraiser at Lewis-Manning Hospice Care, said: “The course comprises of a picturesque but muddy route, which will take participants around the fields and woods at Upton Country Park. Along the course there will be various fun obstacles including ramps, muddy ditches, tyre runs, weave polls, ball pits, hurdles, wooden dog houses, tunnels and more. These are being kindly made thanks to The Old Boy’s Club (https://www.theoldboysclub.online/), a local men’s club who run a fantastic upcycling workshop. We cannot wait to see the post event pictures!

“The first 100 sign-ups will receive a FREE Muddy Dog Dash t-shirt, and there will be more opportunities to purchase t-shirts ahead of the day. Every dog taking part will also receive a rosette, bandana, certificate and doggy goody bag. We will also be rewarding each of the dogs who are deemed to be “Muddiest Dog”, “Best dressed/Fancy dress” and “Top Dog Fundraiser” with a Polygon Pets dog wash voucher.

“You can run, jog or walk, that’s up to you, the route isn’t overly challenging, and we hope to see our wonderful community come out in full force to join in and take part our inaugural event – it’s going to be so much fun. We look forward to seeing you and your furry friend there!”

“Registration opens at 10am, and runners will set off in waves from 10.30am. We are asking for humans with their furry friend to pay a registration fee of £30 and other humans without a dog (over 8-years-old) to pay £10 to take part in this fantastic fun event. Also, families can take advantage of buying a family ticket which includes 1 furry friend, 2 adult humans and up to 3 children (between 8-17-years-old) for £45. We are also encouraging participants to raise £50 in sponsorship.”

“Every penny makes a real difference to us; did you know that:

·      £35 could pay for a special sleeve helping to reduce painful arm swelling for cancer patients attending our Lymphoedema clinic.

  • £50 could pay for an hour patient appointment with our amazing specialist physio.
  • £75 could pay for 5 sessions of nursing care with a therapy dog.
  • £100 could pay for a week’s supply of art materials and entertainment for patients attending the day hospice service.

“Finally, we want to say a huge thank you to our wonderful and kind sponsors of this event, Barratt Homes.”

Megan Hamlyn, Marketing Manager at Barratt Homes concluded, “We are thrilled that we are supporting Lewis-Manning Hospice Care for their inaugural ‘Muddy Dog Dash’, it’s certainly an event not to be missed! Barratt Homes are always keen to support local communities and know that the vital work Lewis-Manning do is truly fantastic, helping patients and loved ones across East Dorset and Purbeck.”

Sponsorship has also been received from Care South who will be taking a stand in the Event Village at Cooper’s Yard, which is a walled garden behind the tearooms at Upton Country Park. Local pet food business, ‘Nurturing by Nature’ will also be supporting the event with their ‘Dog Bar’ and have generously donated goodies to go in all the doggy bags as well as doggy related raffle prizes.
